A new season begins

Just a little over one week ago, everyone was glued to the TV and Internet as our next president was elected. In those final days, it felt like the NBA Finals or the exciting close of some other sporting season–two teams and their fans going head-to-head in a showdown.

Some people were mightly disappointed at the outcome and others rejoiced. I knew some people who predicted the doom of our future and others who felt as though they’d just seen light at the end of a long tunnel. I heard opinions and reactions from both sides.

Regardless of the feelings, opinions, and predictions we have for the next four years, one thing remains: “Everyone must submit to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist are instituted by God. So then, the one who resists the authority is opposing God’s command, and those who oppose it will bring judgment on themselves” (Romans 13:1-2).

The last time I checked, Jesus was king before the election—and He’s still the king after. And just because some people may think the fight is over regarding certain issues, I’m here to say it’s not. Now, more than ever, is the time we are to live out our values and continue to speak truth into our culture and promote godly, biblical values to those around us.
