Substance Abuse

Few things have more potential to destroy an individual’s life than alcohol and illicit drugs. These dangerous substances interfere with every area of life—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.

In Christ we possess the strength to be separate from anything that does not bring glory to God. Without a solid foundation in Christ, we are more likely to be pulled along by the world, substituting pleasure and self-indulgence for purity and self-sacrifice.

It is God’s will that we be filled with the Holy Spirit, not alcohol or illicit drugs (Ephesians 5:18). Substance use and abuse negatively impacts our relationships with others and trashes our Christian witness. It signals we have placed our trust in something other than God and reflects an empty search for joy in chemicals instead of in Christ.

As followers of Christ, we must understand what is at stake and resolve to live a life that glorifies God and draws people to Him.
